Volunteer Trauma Training

Trauma training is offered each quarter for volunteers to be equipped to serve children from hard places well. Lunch is provided. The workshop is free to volunteers with registration.

The workshop covers:

The Impact of Trauma on the Life of a Child: addresses the essential skills of trauma-informed care, defines types of trauma, and examines the impact of trauma on child development

Building Trauma Competent Caregivers: Understanding and Navigating the Emotional and Behavioral Needs of Traumatized Children: introduces practical strategies and tools within the context of the seven essential skills of trauma-informed care. Participants will gain practical knowledge and experience that will help them deal with the emotional and behavioral needs of traumatized children.

Using the Skills of a Trauma Competent Caregiver: the focus is on applying the knowledge gained. Participants will have the opportunity to practice key learning strategies.

*Please Note: Completion of the one-day trauma training is required for Joy Meadows volunteers who wish to serve in the capacity of Mentor, Camp Counselor, and Individual Session Leader.
